Frequently Asked Questions

  • I previously lived in St. Louis, Missouri, and I continue to maintain a Missouri license so that I can offer online therapy through video sessions to clients who are physically located in Missouri. You can schedule an online session here.

I am currently based in Lisbon, Portugal, where I offer some in-person sessions and see clients throughout Portugal via online video sessions.

I also work with international clients, depending on location and circumstances. Some of the people I work with are living abroad, moving between countries, or navigating life across cultures. You can read more about how I work with international and cross-border clients on the International Clients page.

If you’re unsure whether your location is a good fit, you’re welcome to reach out. I’m happy to help you understand what options are available to you and whether working together would make sense.

  • Online therapy takes place through secure video sessions. Before each appointment, you’ll receive a private link by email for that day’s session. The technology works similarly to other video meeting platforms, but I use a system specifically designed for HIPAA-compliant mental health services.

In terms of the experience, online therapy is much like in-person work. We meet at a consistent time, talk together in real time, and move at a pace that feels supportive and manageable. Many people appreciate being able to join sessions from a familiar space, which can make it easier to settle in and focus.

If you’re wondering whether online therapy would be a good fit for you, you can read more about my approach on the About page or reach out with questions.

  • I offer a limited number of in-person sessions in Lisbon, Portugal. Availability can vary, and many people I work with choose to meet online even when in-person sessions are an option.

If you’re interested in in-person work, you’re welcome to reach out and we can talk about what might be possible.

If in-person sessions aren’t a good fit, online therapy remains an option for clients located in Missouri, throughout Portugal, and in some international contexts.

  • For clients located in Missouri, my standard fee for 50-minute therapy sessions is $150. I am considered a licensed out-of-network provider and can provide a statement for reimbursement for clients who have out-of-network mental health insurance benefits. I also offer options for clients for whom the standard rate would be a financial burden. If you would like more information, please inquire.

Fees for clients located in Portugal or other international locations may vary. If you’re interested in working together and have questions about fees based on your location, please reach out and we can talk through what options are available.

  • The first full appointment is a time for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask questions to better understand what brings you to therapy, and you’ll have a chance to get a feel for my style and how I work.

Many people leave the first session feeling that they’ve taken an initial step, with their nervous system more settled than it was before, and with a sense of hope about where therapy can go. My intention is for you to come away having gotten something meaningful from the session, without feeling like you needed to share more than felt comfortable for a first meeting. We’ll move at a pace that feels supportive and respectful.

  • The answer to this varies from person to person. Some people come to therapy with a specific goal in mind, and we might work together for a shorter period of time, such as several weeks. Others come for deeper or more ongoing work, which naturally takes longer.

There’s no single timeline you’re expected to follow. In therapy, we check in about what feels helpful and what you’re wanting and needing, and we make sure the work we’re doing continues to make sense for you. The length of therapy is something we decide collaboratively, at a pace that feels respectful of your needs and goals.

If you still have questions or are wondering whether working together might be a good fit, you’re welcome to reach out.
